The Salesforce Application Programming Interface (API) License and Terms of Service is a legal agreement governing developer and organization access to Salesforce APIs, platforms, and related services.
1. Authority & Binding Agreement
- Entity Binding: Accepting the terms binds both the individual user and the organization or legal entity they represent.
- Access Requirement: Agreeing to the terms is mandatory before using or accessing Salesforce APIs or developer services.
2. Permitted Use & License
- License Grant: Grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited license to access Salesforce APIs to build, integrate, or maintain applications that interoperate with Salesforce services.
- Scope: Usage is restricted to internal business purposes or designated application functionality approved under developer agreements.
3. Restrictions & Prohibited Uses
- No Reselling or Redistribution: You may not license, sublicense, sell, rent, lease, or host API access for unauthorized third parties or as part of a service bureau.
- No Competitive Benchmarking: Direct competitors are prohibited from accessing the APIs. You cannot use the APIs to monitor performance, availability, or conduct competitive analysis/benchmarking without prior written authorization.
- No Reverse Engineering or Modification: Modifying, creating derivative works, framing/mirroring, or reverse-engineering the platform or APIs is strictly prohibited.
- Acceptable Content: APIs must not be used to store, process, or transmit libelous, infringing, unlawful, or harmful material, or to violate privacy rights.
4. Data Protection & Compliance
- Customer Responsibility: Users are solely responsible for the accuracy, quality, and legality of the data transmitted via the API and for obtaining necessary permissions to process it.
- Policy Adherence: API usage must comply with Salesforce policies, including the Acceptable Use Policy, External-Facing Services Policy, and data privacy guidelines.
5. Warranties & Liability Disclaimers
- Provided “As-Is”: APIs and developer services are provided without warranties of any kind (express, implied, or statutory), including disclaimers of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
- Limitation of Liability: Salesforce disclaims liability for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, as well as lost profits or lost data resulting from API use.
6. Modifications & Updates
- Salesforce reserves the right to update or modify the API terms, technical documentation, usage limits, or underlying endpoints, with updates becoming effective upon posting or prior notice.
