Knowledge(KAV) Status Change Actions not firing Triggers in Salesforce

Any Actions that change the publication status of a Knowledge(KAV) record, like Publish and Archive, do not fire Apex triggers in Salesforce. But, sometimes publishing an article from the UI causes the article to be saved, and during these instances the before update and after update triggers are called.

When an article is published in Salesforce from the edit page, the knowledge article is first saved and then published. Workflow rules apply to the saved draft article but not to the published knowledge article.
